This affordable French restaurant specializes in beef dishes; along with Steak Frites and steak au poivre, they serve cuts of Parisian and New York sirloin, filet mignon and rib eye. With subtle and romantic lighting, gleaming dark wood and a tin ceiling, this busy bistro is popular with couples. In addition to meat, there are entrees like mussels in white wine and garlic, duck terrine, fish dishes, pasta and poultry. The onion soup appetizer and chocolate cake dessert get rave reviews. Please call ahead for hours.

Love It! – Bistro! Been going here for ages! Definitely not a 5-star restaurant, so lets keep that in mind, because even similar restaurants that aren't 5-star, like Orsay, charge a heck-of-a lot more for similar foods too! The food, however, is absolutely amazing. One thing I noticed with other reviewers is that they tend to complain on how the dishes were served. I'm pretty sure all of their dishes on their menu are fully detailed, so you pretty much get what you read off the list. The steaks are seriously some great compe... read more
Yummy Brunch – Stopped in one Sunday morning because their brunch menu looked pretty extensive and had cheap cocktails. The food was excellent (the potatoes are AMAZING!) and the staff is courteous and attentive. I have gone back several times and never had a negative experience. I sent friends there (including a group of out-of-towners in town for a bachelorette party weekend. -- note: their group of ~20 people ALL loved it). YUM.
Good Steak – Space is tight at this busy upper east sider, especially on a warm Saturday evening in Spring. But a reservation will get you a nice table by the open window of the enclosed sidewalk cafe. The menu, as the name suggests, mixes French bistro fare with some steakhouse classics and offers a nice variety from which to choose. We started with the warm goat cheese tart served with roasted tomatoes on top and drizzled with olive oil. Rich and delicious. For slightly lighter fare, the beet & goat cheese salad was perfec... read more
Good food, cooked well – We went late on a Tuesday night, after the main dinner rush. I opted for sea scallops with a mushroom ragout, which was genuinely excellent - it's hard to get a decent scallop, but these were perfect, with the ragout making a wonderful accompaniment. This is high praise, as I am not a mushroom fan. My husband had the 10oz steak with frites, plus the house steak sauce. The meat was not heavily-seasoned, but it was certainly tender, of good quality, and cooked exactly as requested. The steak sauce was ... read more
Great Steak with original sauce, excellent value – This place is a great find,,,,the atmosphere is cozy and very "bistro-y".....I like it, very neighborhood..... The House Salad is so simple and always great....THe steaks are delicious...cooked to perfection with a very special house steak sauce.....I think the value, epecially for Steak is very much appreciated. The fish dishes are also very good, and the wine suggestions are right on!!!!
So-so steaks – We've been here a few times and have been consistently disappointed. French steak is usually so much more flavorful than this. In addition, I've had to send it back a few times because it was OVERcooked. I like my meat a la Francaise, ie black and blue, and they just don't seem to get it. Worse, the actual quality of the meat is not that good. And they're supposed to be a French place???? Wine list is generally OK, it's kind of hard to find something not from an off-vintage or a lower-level producer. Service i... read more
Less Than Great – Live nearby in the neighborhood so stopped by for dinner on a Tuesday night around 8. My friend and I were the only diners under the 50-70 age range. Food was ok, but nothing to write home about. My fish was dry and not very flavorful, and my friends steak was juicy, but a little burned on the outside. Ambience on the covered outer deck was colorless and boring and I was generally disappointed with the place. Orsay one block over is a better option for French fare in the neighborhood.
Great Find – Bistro Le Steak is a great neighborhood restaurant and the food is good too. I had Steak Frites and the roquefort salad and both were really good. I also had a martini and it was nice as well. The atmosphere is cute - just like a french bistro and the service was great. There was no attitude at all either. Now, I have had better steaks, but this is convenient and not hard to get in to. This is great for a low key night and I will definitely go back. Prices good too.
good swordfish – my girlfriend had the swordfish which was outstanding. She is a big swordfish fan and really enjoyed her meal. I had the filet which was good but nothing wonderful. The service was excellent.
