The yoga is very difficult, the community you find at BYH is what will keep you coming back. It is a diverse community that creates a safe space for all yogis. Sarah is a thoughtful and nurturing owner and will make you feel comfortable right away.
There are five different Bikram Yoga studios in the Baltimore area, but there is only one Bikram Yoga Hampden. I have been to the other studios, and they are nice, but BYH ended up being my favorite for so many different reasons. The first being the warm and welcoming energy of the studio from the moment I walked through the doors. I immediately felt like I belonged when I first went to that studio. The instructors seem to really embrace the yoga mentality of 'be where your body is at today', meaning do not try to push yours... read more
Bikram Yoga Hampden (BYH) is where I took my second Bikram yoga class four years ago and I have been practicing there ever since. I tried other Bikram studios in the Baltimore area, but I decided to practice at BYH. Proximity was not the reason as the studio is about thirty minutes from where I live. What drew me to BYH was the compassion, knowledge and patience of the teachers. Bikram yoga is not an easy exercise. The studio you attend makes all the difference between frustration with your body and acceptance of what it is ... read more
I am not young, thin nor flexible, and I really don't like hot Baltimore summers. But I really love Bikram Yoga Hampden! Thanks to BYH I'm feeling younger, fitter and surprisingly limber, AND (big bonus!) summer heat makes me wilt less. The hot room relaxes our muscles and each of us does the best yoga we can each day we come - and it is hard work. But we can come tired, distracted, in pain or reluctantly - and we can still do wonderful yoga. Henri probably doesn't remember the day I wandered in to check out the studio, but ... read more
yoga is for healing and for good health - and bikram yoga hampden is THE BEST! i have myriad health issues and my docs love BYH as much as i do. orthopedic docs, rheumatologists and oncologists are all delighted at my recoveries from joint problems and cancer treatments. all the instructors are terrific at knowing exactly which positions i can do and which i should avoid. the icing on the cake at BYH is the other students. they're so supportive. every day that i go to yoga is a great day.
I like to make sure that I get some sort of exercise regularly, and decided a little over two years ago that I wanted to give Bikram a try. Before I went in, I was pretty intimidated at the idea of the heat (and equally intimidated at the thought of looking silly in front of a bunch of strangers if I couldn't cut it). But, my first yoga class at Bikram Yoga Hampden was just the motivation I needed to keep coming back regularly for the last several years. Sarah was the instructor for my first class, and I let her know before ... read more
The two negative reviews on here are totally ridiculous!!!! I go to Bikram Hampden all the time, I know all the teachers, and I have never witness rude behavior by any of them ever! True, as a beginner you don't really get extra help or special attention, you are expected to watch and listen and participate the best you can. Considering the huge number of people who come only once because either they can't handle the rigors of the 90 minutes, they're using a Living social coupon, or it's just not for them, why would they get... read more
Beginners not welcome – If you are a beginner you should look elsewhere. The instructors are not very considerate. They have unrealistic expectations for beginners. The instructors egos fly very high here, as if they were born doing this. They have forgotten where they come from. Forgotten what it's like to be a mere beginner or mortal ;-) However, the instructors do succeed at taking you out of the practice and its moments. Even veteran yogis were bothered by the way they shout at people. As a student was leaving a class sh... read more
Great yoga--be ready for a challenge! – I have been practicing at Bikram Yoga Hampden for almost three years and I cannot more highly recommend taking a class here and making this practice a part of your life. As many people say about Bikram yoga, it isn't for everyone. Many people use military jargon to describe the room, which I feel is a little too simplistic. It is a difficult practice that is taught in a very specific way. If you've ever practiced Iyengar yoga, you might have an idea of how this goes. There is a right w... read more
