I was so scared to turn 18. It turned out to be the best thing to ever happen to me. This building is so beautifully made. So warm and welcoming. But what’s the point if you’re not going to help kids? They diagnosed me with borderline intellectual functioning. Why? I didn’t talk during the IQ test ( I have selective mutism). It was a cycle. It's very hit or miss depending on who you get helping you. The staff on 8A were nice when I went, but besides that it got very chaotic quickly. Shoutout Dr. Axelson who discharged me from the PCD despite me being actively suicidal and disregarding my concerns. Honestly expected better from the HEAD OF PSYCHIATRY AT NATIONWIDE CHILDRENS. I will forever be thankful for the men and women that helped me here. I was sent here 5 times from age 15-17 and was a very sick child; OCD, PTSD, ADHD/ADD and substance use drove me into phycotic rage and suicide. I remember many nights in the padded room, 4 quarter restraints, yet they still treated with compassion and care. Did they cure me?
