We were in Solon Iowa yesterday on our freedom rock tour and decided to visit Big Grove brewery for lunch. It was a very chilly day and I was really cold. They pulled a table right over by the fireplace so we could sit and enjoy the warmth while we ate. It doesn't get any better than that and the beer was great too!
A chef for almost 30 years and I want to work there. One of my favorite places.
I have been here 3 times in the past 3 months, once in September with my family for dinner and now twice this week for lunch! The first visit back in September I remember thinking the menu was lacking options, really not a lot of choices! Second/third time I came I thought the same thing! The visit on Friday this week was good! Waitress was attentive but to be honest I was slightly put off by her attire, I felt for being a waitress she should have dressed up a bit more! We had creamy potato soup which was very nice and tater tot casserole, good basic food. The Pub Ale is excellent, but the Wilson Orchard cider was yeasty and flat.
The stouts, bourbons, pizza are all top notch. What a magnificent restaurant for such a small town. Oh, and the service, especially for New Year's Eve, was excellent. I wish I lived closer. Highly recommend.
Finally! A place with great and interesting food and beer styles for everyone. I stopped in to Big Grove to break up a road trip across Iowa and couldn't be more impressed. Great service, a great atmosphere, and I was blown away by the food. I will be back!
