This hip Nolita bike shop has won all sorts of awards, and has a large following of devotees that claim it is the best store of its kind in the city. The staff (all hip cyclists themselves) are knowledgeable and helpful about the wide selection of mountain bikes, road bikes and cruisers on hand. Custom built bikes can be ordered. Bicycle Habitat also carries a good selection of accessories and gear. Travelers Note: some of the lower-end models are also available for rent.

2 bad experiences here – I've been visiting many of the cities bicylce shops lately as I've gotten into cycling recently. I can say that in my two trips to Bicycle Habitat, I left with bad tastes in my mouth. The first time I was looking to buy a road bike. The guy who helped me seemed to have little knowledge and also showed little interest in helping me. The second time was worse. I asked a man (owner) for noseless saddles. His response, "No we don't have them, that's stupid" I was taken aback by this and stated I wanted i... read more
terrible service – I went in there recently looking for a helmet. i was obviously interested in helments, but no one helped me until i asked....10 minutes later. still bought it though, but i prefer not to go there actually. it seems like they have sales people and repair people that don't know anything (or choose not to) about anything in the store.
Pathetic service – My boyfriend and I went in to buy a bike for each of us. Not one sales person approached us. We asked one of the many staff standing around to assist and he had no idea of the differences in the Trek bikes we were looking at. When I asked him if someone else would maybe know, he snidely responded "I guess so, but whatever, I can help." We walked out. They lost 2 sales that day. Metro Bicycles was friendly and less expensive and got our business.
Top-notch bicycle retailer and rental shop – The Scene If you are on the hunt for a new bike, head on over to this cycling enthusiast's mecca. This beloved Soho shop carries everything, from the latest models and hydration aids to performance clothing and shoes good enough for the Tour de France. Private and group maintenance and repair classes are offered regularly throughout the year. Ask the smart and friendly staff about special deals on clearance items as well as local bike rides and outings organized through the shop. ... read more
I LUV BICYCLE HABITAT – Buying my first pair of clip bike shoes...I was so nervous! Everyone in the shop was so helpful, and they were the only place I found that had shoes specifically for women. I went to 2 other stores before I went there. With a laid back and cute staff, I'm fulfilling all my fututre bike needs at Bicycle Habitat. AND...they have an info packed website.
HORRIBLE SERVICE – THE SERVICE IS HORRIBLE NOBODY IS FRIENDLY AND YOU JUST WAIT AND WAIT THERE HOPEING THAT SOMEONE WILL HELP YOU. MY ADVICE IS SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE
