Equity Apartments had trouble returning our $5,000+ rent deposit and only did so after a concerted effort. That was a violation of California law because they took more than 21 days. Worse was that before leaving, we were visited by a thuggish-looking apartment inspector who said we had to be charged for "steam cleaning" the carpet and cleaning the room, which was a violation of Civil Code Section 1950.5(b)(3). They deducted it illegally from our rent deposit and never paid it back.

Save yourself so much trouble by not renting with this company. They have the worst customer service. Call and see for yourself. They don't communicate and take a long time to fix things. Recently there was a test fire drill and they didn't bother to notify tenements. Also, this apartment complex is well kept but the hallway carpeting is old and stained. At almost $3,000 for a one bed with zero luxury amendments (it doesn't even have a working front door) it's too much and not worth it.
