Tom Wolfe wrote that you can never go home again. He was sadly correct. The Benji’s I remember might look pretty much the same, but the food, wow, awful. Specifically, the mishmash soup was what my grandmother would have called a shanda, which is Yiddish for a disgrace or shame. The soup itself never had a real chicken dip a toe in it; it was probably from a bouillon cube or a mix, watery with a yellowish film on top. Hard to find a decent pastrami sandwich in milwaukee, so I was looking forward to Benjis and they did not disappoint. Ordered the Gonzo with pastrami instead of corned beef, and it was great. Similar to the Goodmann at Seigels in Vegas with lettuce, tomatoes, Swiss and slaw. Delicious.
Ny city style deli. Worth the visit with cornbeef a speciality.
Brought my family to dine in today was a great experience great service great food and our waitress Kathy was awesome got us everything we needed. Well deserved 5 star review!
