I called Belgrade Canoe and Kayak on a whim yesterday in my quest to obtain an 8-foot sit-in kayak (I wanted one that would fit inside my SUV as I'm short and roof racks can be a pain). Ralph answered all of my questions and worked with me to get EXACTLY what I wanted within my budget. He was friendly and accommodating. Belgrade Canoe and Kayak has been in business for almost 30 years. Over the years I've done business with them many times. Always got good service and good quality at a fair price.

2 years in a row we reserved a double kayak and 2 years in a row he didn’t have it when we came to get it. Then he went ahead and charged us when he did not supply the kayak. Go to Great Pond Marina, better stock, better service, same price and most importantly better people who won’t try to take advantage of you and take money for services or products not provided.

This “business” is in the habit of purchasing merchandise at Walmart, then selling it at more than 200% of Walmart’s retail price. Not only that, they defend such tactics when confronted by claiming, “That’s business...” DO NOT CONDUCT BUSINESS WITH THIS ORGANIZATION. Old Town Canoe has been notified, as have other companies with whom they are affiliated. The best thing that can happen to Belgrade and the central Maine region is to starve this business of customers and make them close their doors permanently.

Previous contacts have been great. Business practices that happened today and the response from Belgrade Canoe and Kayak has left a less than favorable recommendation. I no longer trust the quality from this business.
