Stayed over the holidays, a big mistake!! – Stayed 4 nights and moved 3 different rooms because of the filth. The sanitary issues included Black Mold, clogged shower drains, towels were small and like sandpaper, all comforters were stained and/or holes in them. All box springs had urine stains. Carpet smelled of urine and was wet by the beds. Cleanest Place I have ever stayed in – Over six years ago I stayed at Beck's and I was amazed by the tidiness of the place. It was recommended to me by a driver friend who swore to me that I would be safe there. I was amazed myself not only to the safe-net it provided but also to everything else. The Castro is an amazing place: if you want to be around open-minded people, friendly, and fun I recommend the Beck's and The Cafe just a few blocks from there.
Welcoming a gay, lesbian and straight clientele. – The Scene A huge rainbow flag proudly waves at the corner of Market and Castro streets, flying over the heart of San Francisco's gay and lesbian mecca. The best deal in the Castro! – I have stayed here many times. It's located within walking distance of Castro St, public transport, shops & restaurants, and bars. It's also a well kept establishment. I don't spend hours in my room when I'm in SF. There's too much to do! It's a great base to travel from. As far as cruising goes, the clientele is mostly gay men, so cruising is a given. Cruise Haven – This is an extreme "cruise" motel. Don't leave your door open if you dont want unexpected company. The staff was friendly, ammenities lacking, but the location more than makes up for the drawbacks. Good restraunts within walking distance, as well as bars. Nice leather shop 1 block away, and a killer barber shop just next door to the leather shop.
Zero Privacy, Zero Hospitality – We specifically asked if there was "cruising" going on at the hotel. We were assured that there was no cruising - and based on that - we made reservations. However, from the moment we arrived, there was excessive, and at times, aggressive cruising. Coupled with the fact that the room did not have a fan/air-conditioner and smelled of smoke/exhaust, we were unable to open the door for ventilation because guys would either be looking in and/or actually just stand in the doorway.
