Not my favorite – Made a point to hit some of the best restaurants in Nola. My favorites were Peristyle, GW Fins and Acme Oyster House. Bayona has wonderful ambiance, best wine list including rare California wines we can't find in California! The sweetbreads were sensational as was the rabbit and my husband enjoyed the duck. My choices were less memorable and didn't wow me, seemed a bit tired ... but husband and our guest were both impressed.
Not Impressed – We read about how great this restaurant was, so we made reservations. The food was nothing special. It was quite bland. Also, my food had a hair in it. Understandable. This happens everywhere, eventually. There were no apologies. They just took it away and brought a new plate. The atmosphere was just typical. It is is a renovated house. For the price, we were extremely disappointed. We could have spent that money in a much nicer place like Commander's Palace. We would not go again. But if you like to pay high... read more
Disappointment??? – Hmmm, I was also in the place on 1/15/03. Loved it. Esp. when a boor at the next table loudly announced to the sommelier he did not order French wines "for political reasons". This in a FRENCH restaurant. Impressively, the s did not hit him over the head with any available bottle. Sweetbread appetizer alone would have done it. The lamb loin was perfect, the staff friendly (I wonder who was at that next table?). All this in an elegant small room. Woof.
What a disappointment!!! – Don't bother going to this overrated restaurant. Although the food is above average it is far from spectacular. Service was the worst I've encountered. Even when brought to management and the chef's attention, no effort was made to apologize or rectify the situation. Their arrogance was disappointing. There are too many wonderful restaurants in New Orleans to bother with Bayona.
Vastly Over-Rated! – Was this place a disappointment! I had heard great things and saved it for last in my recent week-long gourmet odyssey in New Orleans. The place was beautifully decorated, offering friendly service and knowledgable about food and wine. What came out of the kitchen was sub-standard for the image and reputation that this place aspires to...Signature dishes such as shrimp with black bean cake were overcooked and puny. The garlic soup had the texture of wallpaper paste, possibly the flavor too...My rabbit en... read more
