Battlefield Farms was built in 1982, as a co-generation facility to hydroponically produce lettuce. It was originally six-and-a-half acres and was located here in rural Virginia to take advantage of waste heat generated by a natural gas pumping station located down the hill. The hydroponic facility was closed down, gutted by an interim owner and converted into a bedding plant/poinsettia range that operated six months out of the year.
