Met with old friends here. Wasco county is so beautiful. So many things to see and do. Lots of great hikes and waterfalls! The service and food were both fantastic. At night it is so quiet and you can see the stars! Highly recommend!
Charming historic hotel, a welcome change from the boring chain hotel experience. Very quiet and relaxing, the grounds and local scenery are fantastic and worth a walk around. The staff were friendly and helpful in the most genuine way. The on site restaurant has a small but excellent menu, our dinner and light breakfast were perfect, the young chef was both skilled and attentive. Had a wonderful stay at the Balch. Only 15 minutes from The Dalles. Rooms are well furnished and comfortable with unique views, dinner in the Bistro was really good (had shrimp linguine) in an intimate and romantic setting. The hotel spaces have authentic "old western" feel. This is a great place for a "slow down" from life and a very relaxing place. Remember to ask for a room with a private bath, as not all rooms have those and don't count on any TV's, as they don't exist here! But Wi-fi is very good.
We had a wonderful stay at the Balch Hotel. season. The beautiful Christmas decorations set a perfect stage for a holiday get away. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The Bistro provided an ideal setting for a visit with friends over a tasty and very satisfying meal. And the we can’t say enough about the friendly service we received.
This historical hotel is a charming gem. The decor takes you back to another time, and the Christmas decor adds a new level of coziness. Our room was comfortable, and our host was warm and attentive. We had a delicious dinner prepared by their chef, and for breakfast, a basket of goodies including a fresh baked muffin. With the old charm comes creaky floors, and that can be a distraction. The only thing missing is a big fireplace to sit by on a chilly night.
