I had my back pain for 6 or 7 months. I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he sent me to a physical therapist. I did physical therapy exercises for about 6 months but there didn't seem to be much improvement. Then the orthopedist suggested I come here. I had an acute lumbar strain and then, later, an MRI scan which showed a herniated disc contacting the right nerve root. It was a sharp, shooting pain on the right side, just constantly, constantly down my right leg to my foot. It was constant, day in and day out. It started September of 2006- more than a year ago. I was suffering a lot of pain in my shoulder and elbow and my hand was tingling and going cold and my fingers were going cold. I wasn’t able to sleep. This went on for months despite all the treatments that I had already done. I tried chiropractic and deep massage. Then I went to an osteopath but I still couldn’t sleep and was still in pain. I had very debilitating back pain making it almost impossible to get in and out of a chair or walk or do normal activities around the house- it was horrible. My MRI scan showed I had an extruded herniated disc at L4-5 compressing the nerve root. My nurse friend saw it on the MRI and was surprised how bad it looked. Just before I came into Backstrong for treatment, the pain was so intense I hadn’t slept in two nights. After the third treatment here I was able to sleep through the night. I was having low back pain and pain in both hips and legs. Dr. Castanet said I had a low back problem but he also diagnosed a separate hip problem that he saw on the x-rays, for which I needed to see an orthopedist. He said he could help me with my back pain and the part of my leg pain that was coming from my back but I needed to see the orthopedist for my hip joint problem. I was having extreme lower back pain. It was a greater severity than I had ever had before. It went down the left leg and the pain was a 9.5 out of 10. I was using crutches. I was having back problems and deteriorated discs. On a scale of 1 to 10, my pain was a 10-12 out of 10. I’ve had that pain for a long time- 32 years. I’ve had tens units. I’ve had injections.
