Excellent Breakfast & Brunch Place – Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. And this is that kind of place. The owner and servers are always friendly and funny. They make you feel right at home. And the food is always delicious! It's one of my favorite places to go in Midtown. I love it, and you will too!
Avoid Babs like the plague – This was our first, and last, meal at Babs. We ordered Juniper Street Wraps (one with turkey sausage, and one Vegetarian), with potatoes and fruit. The ?fruit? was a ? inch orange garnish. The potatoes were good. The Wraps could NOT be eaten. The coffee mug had grounds on the rim. The assortment of tea bags had been fingered so much by past customers that the paper packages were torn and faded. After 20 minutes, the waiter came over and seeing that we hadn't eaten, asked if the food was ok. Now, ... read more
Cozy atmosphere but not so good service – I have visited this restaurant twice. My first time was for Sunday brunch, and the food and service were both excellent. However, my second visit was for Saturday breakfast. The menu had changed, and we had trouble deciding what to order. The menu was too "out there" and not much to choose from for a basic breakfast. In addition, I agree with the previous reviewer that the staff was "testy." The server acted as though it was a bother to serve me. To top that off, I just checked my ba... read more
serving tasty southern breakfasts w/ testy service in a cozy brick basement – Babs is set in the basement of a house. The basement is brick w/ barrel vaulting and open on 2-sides which lends to its quaint and cozy atmosphere, yet allows light to enter brightening up the space. It's cute and the food is tasty. Tasty but not necessarily healthy. The menu is constantly changing and always themed. Been here a few times and each time, the service and the food has not been consistent. On its good days the food is delicious and the... read more
Not so good – Well, we went to Babs a few times a few years ago. Usually Sunday brunch. Decided at one point that it wasn't the cleanest place. Looked like the plates and silverware weren't washed very well etc...Just got a bad vibe. Went back in 4/29/2010. Food still not bad but still seeing the same dirty silverware and glasses. Got up from an outdoor table and had dirt all over my shirt. Suggest they clean things up a whole whole lot.
Slightly offbeat Midtown eatery serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner to the neighborhood. – In Short One of Juniper Street's more casual hangouts, this quirky spot, named after a John Waters character from the movie "Polyester," caters to a neighborhood crowd. Located in the basement of a renovated house, Babs features breakfast dishes--omelets are the speciality--sandwiches, pastas and daily specials, including one low-carb entrée.
