I went to buy screened topsoil for planting grass seed on my large yard. The salesman told me that the blended topsoil contained compost and would work better for growing grass. I bought 2 cubic yards and laid it down carefully. The result was the opposite of what he predicted—no grass would grow because what he called soil is mostly sand. I’m left with large areas where I have to wait until next year to try again.
