uncaring place-do not get highlights! – Do not color your hair there! I wanted highlights. I came there with caramel color highlights & left twice as a brunette with highlights. My hair was needlessly damged & the worst part of all no one cares at aveda. when my hair was washed-everyone disappeared,including the teachers-this was convenient for them since this was the end of the day. Snitty reception – AVOID if you need to stick to a schedule of appointments! On hold for an hour to make and appointment. On the day of my appointment, received a call 3 hours before appointment moving my time up 90 mins. Caller/scheduler was very rude about it. Couldn't work with me or offer any time options. As I was trying to fisure out another option, scheduler says "HELLOO?!!....as if I was supposed to fix the scheduling issue. Free is not worth being treated poorly. Pay for you haircut or go free ELSEWHERE!!!
A total steal – I've gotten my hair cut there, I've gotten my color done, and just yesterday I got a facial...and I can't believe what a good deal it was. I almost feel like I'm advertising for the place with the raving I've been doing about it, but seriously--$50 for a one-and-a-half-hour long facial with hand and foot treatments?! I got a bad bad Haircut!! – I read all the great reviews, and decided to save a few bucks and try a student cut. The girl I got was very sweet, I asked her how long she had been cutting hair, and she said 3 months, which worried me.... She totally did not know how to handle the scissors and comb. She kept parting and clipping my hair over and over, before she actually cut anything - and when she did, she cut her fingers - The she had to stop and put a band-aid on. Great find – I wasn't sure what to expect going in but this was a great experience. I had an appointment so I maybe waited 5 minutes tops. I got a great haircut, great customer service, and it was only $20! I will def be back for my next hair cut :)
Best experience ever! – If you want a great facial or an excellent and a very cheap haircut/style change, then you must visit the Aveda Institute NY at 233 Spring Street. You may have to wait to get an appointment and expect to spend some time being "styled", but it is so worth it!!! The staff and students are very friendly and professional, and they really listen to you, unlike a lot of stylists who are "experienced". Rude desk staff, takes forever – The haircuts are generally good, but the staff at the front desk is incredibly rude. And they take forever. With so many salon schools and salon training nights in NYC, this one is definitely not worth it!
very good haircuts, a little tricky to get appt, some variations in cut – overall, its such a great deal. its a nice place, nice setup. you don't know exactly who you're going to get but all haircuts have been good or very good to great - some are better than others. I think I ususally pay around $18.
Great facials, haircuts too - with some caveats. Read on... – i went to the Institute for a facial and a haircut. The facial, as always was fabulous... the haircut was the first I'd gotten there, so I was a little nervous (especially after reading the reviews here!).
