I just started seeing Dr. S and I am very impressed with him. He is very intelligent and has answered every question I ve asked. I m not sure why others have given him such negative reviews. If you truly do have a rheumatic disease, he will work with you every step of the way. His office staff is also very kind.
I came to Dr. Smitherman seeking to replace a former doctor who retired. Although he was recommended, I would not recommend him to others based on my first and only visit. He was very agressive and like a used car salesman tried to get me to agree to change my drug regimen on my first visit, implied that my previous doctor had given up on me because of the medications I am on, and was overall very arrogant and gruff. I have found a new rheumatologist and will not be returning to Dr. Smithermans care.
This is the worst experience I have ever had with a medical "professional". He conducted himself in the rudest, most unprofessional, and most condescending manner I have ever seen in a doctor. He actually raised his voice to challenge me when I asked simple question about diagnosis. I would never recommend this doctor to anyone.
I have had 2 visits, found Dr. Smitherman to be very thorough, answered questions thoughtfully and patiently. During the second visit he reviewed treatment options pro and con, explaining why he elected the course of action he took. After the second visit I recieved a very comprehnsive (8 pages plus test results) account of each visit together with a medical history. I have never gotten this type of information from any doctor.
