I saw my GP in early November 2024 and weighed in at 246lbs. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos and put on thyroid meds. A month later I saw Dr Smyrlis as a precaution and weighed in at 240lbs. Dr. Athanasios Smyrlis, has got to be the most thorough, patient, kind and professional Cardiologist in NY, I absolutely adore him. Mt. Sinai is blessed to have him on their staff. Dr. Smyrlis saved my life! On June 26, 2018, I was scheduled for a routine hip surgery at South Nassau/Mount Sinai Hospital. It was a day I’ll never forget. During the surgery, a blood clot formed in my hip and traveled to my heart (DVT), causing a massive heart attack. Dr. Smyrlis, who wasn’t scheduled to be in the room that day, immediately sprang into action. He coordinated approximately 15 nurses And surgical staff to perform CPR while I was in cardiac arrest.
