I have never met a more compassionate doctor dedicated to his profession. He is thorough, compassionate and extremely reassuring. He treats his patients as if they were family. Dr. Smyrlis spends so much time with his patients examining and explaining conditions and procedures. . I have recommended several of my friends to Dr. Smyrlis, and without fail they all said he was wonderful. This doctor is a credit to his profession.
I saw my GP in early November 2024 and weighed in at 246lbs. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos and put on thyroid meds. A month later I saw Dr Smyrlis as a precaution and weighed in at 240lbs. Dr Smyrlis said u really needed to lose weight. An easy thing to say but what made Dr Smyrlis a hero to me, was that he layed out a plan for me to follow. Dr. Athanasios Smyrlis, has got to be the most thorough, patient, kind and professional Cardiologist in NY, I absolutely adore him. Mt. Sinai is blessed to have him on their staff. I have had many doctors in the past, Dr. Smyrlis is the only doc I have really liked, not only because he's outstanding in his field of expertise, he genuinely enjoys his work, he's always happy and smiling. I visited Dr Smyrlis today and he greeted me warmly and treated me like family . He listened to my concerns and was very sympathetic and compassionate and very thorough, He made me feel at ease to relate my problems and he wanted to cover all bases to find out my medical concerns.
Dr. Smyrlis saved my life! On June 26, 2018, I was scheduled for a routine hip surgery at South Nassau/Mount Sinai Hospital. It was a day I’ll never forget. During the surgery, a blood clot formed in my hip and traveled to my heart (DVT), causing a massive heart attack.
