Last year, I went in for a cleaning and a filling. I was told I must have a deep cleaning before they would do a filling. Mind you, I have yearly cleanings and never have needed a deep cleaning. I have dental insurance and my out of pocket cost was somewhere near $1200. Fast forward to this year, I went to a different dentist for a cleaning. The visit and care were professional, however, the bill was a shock. I believed I was coming in for a “cleaning” as it was marked on the appointment card. When I arrived I was told I owed $186 for the “cleaning”, because they were doing a fluoride rinse, oral cancer screening, etc. I learned these things are commonly added as additional charges and not covered by insurance. Be sure you know this before you agree to the services.
