Our D.R. Horton home in Ashford Place, IL has been a huge disappointment. The basement has noticeable deflection, cracked wood joists, random misplaced nails, and joist spacing over 21 inches in some areas, raising serious concerns about workmanship. The floors are loud and feel poorly built, yet none of these issues were disclosed during inspections or walkthroughs. Don’t let the incentives persuade you—they aren’t worth it. Hire an independent inspector and carefully evaluate the home’s construction before buying.
We love our home, but I strongly recommend getting an independent inspection before closing. Since moving in, we’ve encountered several issues that appear to stem from construction oversights. We spent more than $800 on bird removal because grates were installed on only some of the exterior vents. Several neighbors have experienced the same problem.
