Best BBQ in San Mateo – I never thought I would find such great BBQ in California. Armadillo Willy's is a great place to grab some BBQ and a great rest while your shopping. It is located in the Bridge Point shopping center near Target. You go in wait in line Order and they give you a buzzer for when your food is ready so you can go up and get it from the cook. So I was skeptical at first. However once I received my food my mind was instantly changed. It was with out a doubt the best BBQ I have ever had in California. I mean ... read more
Great BBQ, dirty cups – BBQ foods are great. But all the silverwares including cups and plates are kind of dirty. I got this cup which had a bunch of BBQ sauce in it so I exchanged for another one, but that cup got some other dirt in it. Overall, the place is kind of dirty, however, the BBQ foods is good.
Texas-style ribs with all the fixings are the draw at this family-friendly mini-chain. – The Scene Each of the locations of this growing empire is a casual spot that's just right for whole family. Southwestern accents give diners plenty of eye candy, and many locations feature outdoor patio eating areas. The Food Peninsula natives John Berwald and John Carroll made a point of getting to know Texas barbecue before opening their first Armadillo Willy's in Cupertino in 1983. It shows in their baby back pork ribs and St. Louis c... read more
This is a very popular restaurant. There is almost always a long wait, which is somewhat odd due to the semi-fast food nature of the restaurant. Prices are also a bit too high. As for the food, it is just okay at best. I would never use Armadillo Willy's BBQ to satisfy a BBQ urge. On the other hand, it is an acceptable lunch alternative to McDonalds or Burger King so long as you are willing to spend about nine to ten bucks for lunch and are willing to take a whole hour for lunch.
better elsewhere.... – As someone who was born in the south and has family currently living there, I can tell you that this is not Texas style BBQ. It's California style with a Texas label. If you want some seriously good southern style BBQ, try Roderick's Barbeque and Seafood in Dublin. Now that's some excellent BBQ!!!
Good Ribs – If you are not looking for atmosphere (and who is looking for atmoshpere in a rib joint) and you don't mind seating and serving yourself, this is a good rib place. Larger selection than some. Good beans. OK cornbread. Nice peanut cole slaw.
Texas Back 40 Barbecue 10 Times Better – We ate at an Armadillo Willy's BBQ down in the Santa Cruz area and was one of the most disappointing barbecue experiences we have ever had. The place couldn't seem to decide if it was a fast food chain or just a restaurant that didn't want to offer any service. I found the barbecue mediocre at best. If you are into quantity, they do give big portions.
Best BBQ in the Bay Area – The best BBQ I have found in the Bay Area. Good value and large portions.
my 2 cents... – I really enjoy thier food, you get a lot for the money (good leftovers!!!)
