Love this place. My grandmother grew up here in the late 40s and early 50s. She was in the National Geographic as a little girl in 1951 along with Dr.James Needham inspecting dragon flies. Always great memories here.
I grew up in Polk and Lake counties in the 50's and 60's and am very upset by what has happened to our beautiful land. Big money talks and everybody else just get out of the way of "our" progress while we destroy the last of a wonderful environment and ecosystem.
Spent a few hours there last week for work — first time ever seeing a scrub jay!
I worked at the station as an intern over a Summer, teaching kids the basics of archeology - it was a lot of fun and the kids really enjoyed the program. I learned so much about Florida's indigenous scrub ecosystem as well! Beautiful preserved habitat with wildlife and plant species you will not find anywhere else in the world.
