I also went through a VA loan and he was assigned as the appraiser. Our property is unusual in we have 1.55 acres with 2 houses. These were built in 1963. Something that was never asked by him. The appraisal we had done 3 year earlier reflected a value of $169,000. His appraisal, with the worst comps I think he could find, was $134,000. Never asked questions, was unfriendly and cold. Mr. Ganong appraised my house at $79,500 when I questioned him as to why the low appraisal he told me that the comps weren't there. when I saw what he was using a a comp I almost lost it. he was comparing my new home that cost over $330,000.00 in materials to build on 15 acres to 12 ft. wide trailers with holes in the roof. totally ridiculous I had a second appraisal and the value while still low in my estimate was 3.5 times higher.
