I've been donating blood since I was 16, and so when I got a call asking for platelets at a center just 20 miles away, I said "why not?" That 20 miles is actually an hour drive, but I've kept going whenever I have five hours to spare. The staff and phlebotomists are very friendly and answered all my questions. And while not every donation has gone perfectly smooth and painless, I've never had a reason to stop going.

I donate whole blood every 8 weeks like clockwork. The staff is friendly and efficient. One could also donate double red or platelets.
I brought my son with me because he wanted to see the process. I was going to do a power red and they first said he wasn't allowed in the back with me and I'd have to leave him in the front waiting area, alone. I asked again when I went to the back because there was a grand total of 1 other donor present and they were clear on the other side of the facility.
