Pathetic. Waited for half hour after appt time to find out that the new “improved” hematocrit finger test showed mine too low to donate (after two LONG tests). It has not been too low in 30 years; the equipment is just not as accurate as a finger stick. I have donated 150 times to Red Cross but I won’t be back. Going to Ky Blood Center.
Walk-ins NOT welcome. I had some free time this afternoon and dropped by to donate blood. Was told I needed to leave and sign up for fast-pass on the internet. Then I could schedule an appointment. That's an awful lot of hoops to jump through for a service that is always screaming about needing donations locally here on TV. Worse there was only one person waiting and yet I was made to feel not welcome. Next time I want to donate blood I will go someplace else.
Scheduled an appointment with the American Red Cross, drove over 50 miles to donate, and was treated horribly. They refused to let me donate for an absurd reason—claiming my blood would have "too much iron" and would be thrown out. I’m a healthy O+ donor, don’t drink or smoke, and have donated plenty before.
