We're on day 8 of this derecho nightmare in Cedar Rapids and now you roll into town? Our low income housing on the SW side of town was hit especially hard. These are people who were already struggling and have literally nothing to get them through this crisis. They can't just go buy generators and pay cash for a hot meal at Hy-Vee (only store open since they have generators) 2-3 times a day for everyone in their family. There was no power in a city of 136,000 people for about 36 hours. People who had medical devices that nee... read more

We certainly understand your concerns and want you to know that the Red Cross has been on the ground assisting since this first happened, providing food, water and shelter for those impacted. We would like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts! This was very devastating for our family. The red cross was right on it and there to help while fire fighters still worked at putting out the fire to our home. They also were great with the medical side helped us replace medications we lost. They also have called every week to see how we are recovering and if there is anything they can do to help! You guys are amazing and my family is very appreciative of what you did for us! Thank you ♥️

Volunteers have been to our home twice since the flooding to ensure we had what we needed to recover. An awesome organization that is always there when needed.

The American Red Cross came down our street offering cleaning supplies and snacks after the flooding we experienced in Des Moines. We couldn’t be more appreciative of the help and efforts people have made! What a wonderful world full of wonderful people!
