All please be aware, please do your own research before you commit your hard earned money into this Amalgamated Housing Co-operative. I have been here for 10 years and personally experienced unprofessionalism, unsafe dwelling, plus financial mismanagement. Too many factors have contributed to this unsatisfactory co-operative rating and living due to deferred maintenance. Just a BIG heads-up — I STRONGLY advise against moving here or applying for a job at this property. The rent hikes is outrageous(read the reviews), and people are moving out left and right and some of the employees live there RENT FREE. As for employment, especially in the service department — I DO NOT recommend it at ALL . The environment is VERY toxic, VERY unprofessional, and lacks NO accountability at ALL. This co-op is poorly managed. The union maintenance staff often shows a lack of initiative, and the buildings are in noticeably poor condition. Residents cannot reasonably expect repairs or maintenance to be handled properly. Upon moving out, many cooperators report being overcharged for apartment repairs, with excessive deductions taken from refunds. Recovering these funds can take up to two years or longer, and in some cases, former residents have had to pursue legal action to obtain their rightful refunds.

Like others have mentioned, this cooperative is extremely unresponsive when it comes to returning your refund equity. I have been trying to get in contact with someone for six months and no one has responded.

My mother has lived here for 20+ years, since about 4 years ago everything has gone down hill. They don’t have enough money to fix anything. My mother owns her apartment and has been trying to give it up, but without amalgamation having money, they won’t reimburse her. Maintenance has gone up 60%, and everything is falling apart. They have taken people who live on vouchers. and theres no shame to anyone who lives on vouchers, but it’s an inconvenience to the people who have lived here for years.
