I've never had such a bad experience with a bank. I got referred to them via a first time home buyer's program. Over the last year and a half, I've added money to an account. Now that I want to begin the process of purchasing something, I can't get an answer on any questions related to my savings account with them and the agreement we had for them to possibly finance the loan via the program. I reached out on November 10 and still have not received an answer - today is January 11. I've been emailing weekly for an update. Ugh... read more

This bank has been a nightmare to work with. I am trying to refinance my mortgage, which I have with Amalgamated. I am switching to another bank for the refi. I cannot get a copy of my payoff statement. The new bank has asked for payoff statement several times, including 3 times last week. I have also tried to get it, emailing and calling them. No response. This is holding up my refinance and I'm in danger of losing my rate. Stay away from this bank.

Since the pandemic, this business has been the absolute worst. We refinanced out of Amalgamated Bank on 8/18/2020 and have not received our refund of our escrow account which by law states that they need to send it back to you in 20 days. They also didn't provide final closing numbers until after our refinance closing. Please do not do business with this bank!

Amalgamated is the worst lender for re-financing. They have horrible customer service, horrible, communication, don't listen, documents are constantly wrong, but insist you must sign anywhere and trust that they will fix at closing. I do not recommend at all. Stay away. We ended up sticking with them and things weren't any better after the loan closed. One problem after another.

Hands down the worst institution I have ever worked with. Every 6 months or so like clockwork I get ridiculous notices from them about something changing and am forced to waste an hour or more of my time on the phone resolving it. Everything from overcharging me, not closing an account, etc. And the latest gem is a letter stating that if I don't send in proof of coverage on my CONDOMINIUM then they will charge me $6k for a policy of their choice. this is the most inconvenient, untrustworthy, stupid bank I have ever dealing with!!! I don't recommend this bank to anyone be aware that you will be so disappointed by using this bank. and also be advised that there are no one branch you can ever find near you!

Horrible. I have been trying to close an account regarding my mother for the past few years. I keep providing paperwork to the bank and I'm told someone would get back to me. Then when I have to reach out again I am then told information or documents are too old. So now I have to go back to surrogate court for updated documents. Despite the documents I have is stating otherwise. No help and branch manager was laughing at me on the phone. I'm still grieving so all of this is such a bother to me.
