Very Pleasantly Surprised - Excellent Food My wife and I travel from NYC to Hagerstown 3-4 times a year for family matters and it's a challenge to find a decent, locally-owned, non-franchise restaurant that's not fast food. We usually stay in a hotel on the Dual Highway so this location is perfect. We had been to Richardson's many times for their buffet dinners. They're gone now so we needed to find a new "local' place. Oldy But a Goody Ron's has been around for a long time although it has changed owners recently. The food is exceptional and the price is right. The portions are very large. It is a friendly atmosphere.
Yuck The first time that my husband and I visited this place we were quite surprised. The food was fairly good, the price more than reasonable and the service quick and friendly. However, after the big owner switch, we were highly disappointed. Our food took forever to come out and when it did it was (unsurprisingly) cold. Our water glasses had fuzz of some kind floating in them and our waitress seemed to be on another planet. It was quite embarrassing as I had my parents with me at the time. I have eaten there many times...have always been pleased with the food and service. I ate dinner there tonight...something was off. I ordered fish and chips (which I've had before) . The fish was perhaps too crispy...the fries were dark brown, had a scorched taste, and became soggy. We seemed to wait a long time, and had to wave the server to get refilled on drinks. We came in before 5... it was not that busy.
I took my wife in for Valentine Day Dinner and boy were we surprised. The food was well prepared, and came out hot. I saw the owners walking around and called him over to told him that if I would have went to a fine dinning restaurant like we normally do, I would have spent 100.00 plus. The wraped Salmon in dill sauce was over the top. And the dessert were homemade by the owners wife. Thanks, we will be back more than just once in a while. Brenda our Server deserves ***** stars too!
