William H. Spencer founded the Alliance Rubber Company in Alliance, Ohio, in 1923, when he obtained reject Goodyear inner tubes and began cutting bands in his basement. A true visionary, he emphasized continual product improvement, which continues to this day. In 1923, newspapers were blocked and thrown in the general direction of the porch.
