Families who are raising children with special needs often need a little extra support to ensure that the legal rights their child has are protected- and an attorney specializing in education and discrimination law can be the support that they are looking for.

We recognize that the administrators of some schools refuse to accept that one of their teachers could be the problem instead of the student. If meetings with the principal about teacher abuse aren’t yielding any results or have made the situation worse, it’s time to look into legal options.

Basically, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was written to ensure certain rights for you and your child with a learning or other disability. If you feel that these rights are being infringed upon, then it’s time to hire an education lawyer.

As officers of the court, attorneys are morally bound to be ethical at all times. Going beyond the bounds of ethics in pursuit of a victory endangers the profession as it erodes the trust of the public and casts lawyers in an unfavorable light.

Does your child receive all of the services to which they should be entitled? If not, they should be! An attorney who focuses on those with special needs can help you decide what needs to be done and how to go about it.

A rare copy of the Magna Carta from 1297 resides in the National Archives in Washington, DC. First issued in 1215, the Magna Carta defined basic civil liberties and legal rights within the English common law system, upon which the American legal tradition is based.

Sometimes parents react with legal action before they know all of the details of any given situation. If your district is facing litigation from a parent or parent group, your faculty and staff need the legal protection an attorney experienced in education law can provide.

What happens if you have no living relatives when you die? If you don’t have a will or haven’t updated your will, the rules of the state where you died will take precedence. In Maryland, for example, your assets would be sold and the money given to the state Board of Education. Instead, you could have a civil lawyer include a provision in your will naming your favorite charity in the event none of your relatives are alive when you pass away.

Did you know that there are specific laws relating to the educational rights of children with special needs? The particulars will vary from state to state, but an education lawyer will help ensure that your special needs student is getting the attention they deserve.
