Editorial fromYou've heard of fettuccine Alfredo. Now meet the restaurant that invented it. Well, sort of. The Alfredo's of Rome in Rome was where fettuccine Alfredo originated. This New York location continues innovating Italian food, with Italian…

very unimpressive – The food was just not good. When I go to an italian restaurant, I expect large portions, flavor in the food, and friendly service. If you have standards for food, you would be better off going to the grocery store and simply boiling water and throwing in a box of barilla tortellini. I promise it will taste better than the pasta dishes that I had at Alfredo's. The restaurant is presentable and in a great location, but once the food came I was incredibly disappointed. When the check came I felt ripped off. ... read more
Alfredo is not like it used to be! – The restaurant has really good food...but I don't know whatz been going on the past few years. They make their employees wear tacky diner uniforms - vest, tie and long aprons. Girls are not supposed to look like that! They are supposed to be classy. I don't understand what was wrong with the black clothes they used to wear? Now they all just look like men. The girls that answer the phone don't know what they are doing.!!!! And it is not as clean as it used to be. I guess I'm just stuck in... read more
The perfect place to stretch a business lunch – Whenever you eat near that area, you expect those prices, so that point would be futile. The place is nicely decorated, music wasn't loud and because of its size, it didn't feel crowded even when it was. Servers and management are all very friendly and eager to recommend a new dish or a drink. The reason I named the review like I did, is because they take a long time for everything, hence if you need to keep someone at the table for a long business lunch, this is the right plac... read more
Good Malfatti! – I went here last night for a birthday dinner with my brother. We were seated promptly and our waiter was friendly (although it was a bit difficult understanding him with his heavy italian accent). The spicy marinara sauce they have for dipping with the bread is amazing. I salad they had as a special of the day, which was pretty tasty. For my entree, I ordred the Malfatti (a gnocchi-like dish made with spinach and ricotta).....all I can say that it was so good, I cleaned my plate! I was so stuffed when I left... read more
A stellar disappointment – A great disappointment! With my wife and daughter, I visited Alfredo's restuarant last Friday and discover that bad "Italian" food may be served in one of the greatest cities in the world. I have been to the original Alfredo in Rome and this restaurant does not live up to said name. The fettucine is so so and the pasta that I order, which was prepared with lobster, was insipid and badly cooked. My family is of Italian origin and I have tasted Italian food both in Italy and other parts of the world ... read more
Great food and service!!!! – My friends and I recently visited Alfredo of Rome for lunch. All I have to say is that the service was superb!!! We were greeted at the door by two lovely hostesses one of which promptly seated us at our table. Although it was fairly crowded we were able to get a quiet corner. As the hostess was leaving our table-the waiter was already waiting to greet us. He was very polite and attentive. He asked us if we were interested in the specials of the day and told us the whole story behind the famous f... read more
Just like being in Italy – I am a frequent traveler to Italy....mainly for the the food and wine...and Alfredo is like dining in Rome. The ambiance is unique for an Italian restaurant, but perfect for New York. The food is delicious and typical of what you would find in one of the best restaurants in Rome. The Fettucine Alfredo are the best ever and a must whenever there. The "sushi" appetizers are an awesome combination of flavors. Tons to choose from on the wine menu. The bar is a fun atmosphere and perfect for an after-wo... read more
Outrageous and Shameful!! – I and two of my dear friends visiting from St. Petersburg, Russia, stopped by at Alfredo's on Sunday night (January 6, 2008) for a drink and deserts after our dinner at China Grill. Now, I have been at Alfredo's many times myself before - my office used to be across the Fifth Avenue. In fact, I even have their "Red Card" (for frequent guests). Service was never stellar, but acceptable; food was never spectacular, but okay by NY standards; I liked their cosmos, however. This Sunday night, the treat... read more
My Great Dining Experience in NYC – Saturday's lunch at Alfredo of Rome was an amazing experience. My friends and I started with the Frittura alla Romana (calamari) and Gorgonzola with Pear Pizza for appetizers. For my main course I tried the Straccetti alla Trasteverina. Beef cooked to perfection presented to me on a bed of arugula. The service was excellent as well. I will definitely be back to try more delicious food from the menu.
