I’ll start by saying, you should not let any doctor tell you how much pain is ok for you to live with. When it comes to considering knee replacement, it is a personal decision. You have to determine how much of your life is impacted by the pain, especially if alternative treatments aren't working, and whether any potential risks outweigh what you're dealing with. I had a THR (front) with Dr Alexander McLawhorn at HSS and am extremely happy with the outcome. I would highly recommend Dr McLawhorn and HSS. He is an excellent surgeon and the HSS process pre and post operation seems designed for optimal recovery.
I had a hip replacement. It went really well. I went home that day and had no appreciable pain from the procedure. The recovery process was thoroughly documented and I never had any questions about what I was supposed to do or what to look out for. I am now 8 weeks out and am experiencing continual improvement.
