This could have been a great place to live. ARHA taking over ruined the property - no full time maintenance or cleaners on staff. Residents have many nice areas to use, game room, art room, outdoor patio, dining room, gym and fitness rooms, but many prefer to congregate in the lobby or stand outside in front of the building smoking. Scheduled activities/events rarely occur as planned. Manager is great, personable and professional, but hindered by lack of resources.
Update: August 2025 Alate was sold in August 2025 to Alexandria Redevelopment Housing Authority. It is no longer an luxury active living 62+ apartment resident with quality services. The building is now affordable housing with tenants from a previous owned ARHA property that was closed down. September 2024 We moved to Alate after RVing full time for four years. Beautiful facility
The wonderful staff at Alate made the transition to a senior apartment a pleasant one for my mom. John, Sonadji, Jamar, and Jose are all warm, professional, helpful, and caring. Such a great experience in a beautiful place. Updated 6-28-25 -- Bonaventure is selling Alate to the Alexandria Housing Authority to turn it into public housing. Alate is a beautiful community with wonderful amenities for seniors! The location in Old Town Alexandria is also great! We love the management staffing and feel very safe in the community!
