Al Dente Restaurant

About this business

The North End is where you want to venture for authentic Italian food and Al Dente's fits the bill. Owner Joe Bono used to run a curbside sausage cart prior to opening this eatery with its open kitchen, mahogany wainscoting on the walls and granite tables. The restaurant serves a variety of pasta, chicken, veal, beef and seafood dishes. Try the Al Dente Special, which is sautéed scallopini of veal, chicken and shrimp, with broccoli, mushrooms, peppers and artichoke hearts in a white wine, garlic butter sauce.

Great for the price! Large portions and friendly staff! I ate there last night with my boyfriend. The staff were so nice and the portions were generous; so was the pouring of the wine! Lovely vodka sauce...not heavy like some. Bread was fresh. House wine was pretty good for a house wine and the wine list offered some great other options for less than $30 a bottle. It's not a fancy place, nor a big place: just good food in a friendly atmosphere. I am enjoying the leftovers today. My boyfriend ordered chicken marsala which was... read more

delicioso! this is a small restaurant off the beaten path of Hanover street. It's cozy and you need reservations. THe food is excellent! Service is great because of it's small size.

Might not be worth the wait Al Dente restaurant is one of the most popular restaurant's in Boston's Italian neighborhood- the North End. Here they serve up a menu full of old favorites- like various pasta dishes, chicken parmesean, meat, fish, and vegetables prepared with traditional Italian recipes. The menu is modestly priced, with most dishes ringing in under $20. They also have pretty good marinara sauce. Al Dente takes reservations, but do not expect to be seated at the time you are given. They don't have a bar to wait ... read more

Al Dente Restaurant is a good deal. Pretty good restaurant on Salem Street in the North End. Not a fancy restaurant but a good place to go with the family. Much more reasonable than some of the restaurants in the area. Not the most authentic Italian nor the best food but it is really good and a great night out for the money.

Waitress made us dipping oil and it was incredible and we both had the chicken umberta....huge portions and it was delicious. Definitely will go back....have been here, Assagios and Massimos and they have all been excellent.

STAY AWAY!! The food is horrendous. Some dishes were incredibly bland (fettuccini alfredo) while others were incredibly salty (stuffed chicken dish, the name escapes me). This place is the biggest tourist trap. Servers were nice enough but they smelled overwhelmingly of smoke. Gross!

My family and I ate at Al Dente last night and what a treat! We made a reservation earlier in the day yet had to call while driving there knowing we were going to be late and they still accomodated us. The place was packed so we knew it would be a good choice. The merlot was smooth, the minestrone soup was stocked with veggies, the Cesaer sald for two could feed 4, and my Veal Forentino was amazing. Our waitress, Bonnie, was a delight; very attentive and chatty. After our meal, she served us Lemon Cello (on the house!) and i... read more

VERY GOOD! WHO NEEDS UPSCALE??? – We really enjoyed Al Dente. It was very crowded as it was the night before the marathon, but the place had a great vibe. Mike at the door was very congenial and Lisa was a wonderful waitress. We packed in the place and were served delicious itialian food! Al Dente is very casual and is not fussy!
