So terribly bad. They made repeated promises that they did not follow through with. They helped set up my father inlaw's return home from the hospital but once he returned home they barely came or provided any supplies. Including gloves for their own use. One nursing assistant was helpful for one visit but the actual nurse that came did nothing. She didn't even change a bandage. In late 2024, when there were no other treatment options for my father's cancer, I resisted calling in hospice. We didn't have experience with hospice providers and it felt like giving up. I was wrong, I honestly wish we had called them sooner. Everyone who we spoke to and worked with at Affinity Care was so kind, compassionate and respectful. I hardly know where to start. Affinity Care of Virginia is phenomenal. They helped us out while my husband's aunt who had dementia was living with us. My only experience with hospice care had been with my mom, and that was the worst experience imaginable, so I was dreading the day when we had to call in hospice. I wanted to say how much I appreciate the support from Affinitys Bereavement Coordinator Kathryn Henderson, without her help for the last year since my Mom passed I may not be here in some capacity. I don't know if she gets the recognition she deserves as so much of her help is the compassion and caring she radiates in a phone call, but I know she kept me moving through losing my Mom and a year later her friend of 20+ years. My dear mother has dementia and is not able to ask for pain medicine but was shouting and acting out and no one knew why. Affinity's hospice nurse immediately recognized the problem and effectively treated my mother's pain, calming her way down without making her sleepy or groggy. I think this team is GOLDEN, exceeding my expectations astronomically.
