When your car is new, it performs flawlessly so it's very easy to forget about its maintenance. However, do this long enough and your car will start developing problems that won't only inconvenience you, but compromise your safety as well.

While you can certainly use water to fill your radiator in a pinch, you're going to want to drain it and replace it with coolant as soon as possible. This is because water will eventually cause corrosion that can damage your vehicle's cooling system.

One car system that you should have inspected regularly are your brakes. Even if they're performing as intended, it would be a good idea to have a competent mechanic check your brake pads as well as your rotors every now and then.

If your brakes feel or sound different, you should either stop using the vehicle (if you're finding it hard to stop) or take it to a mechanic right away. Chances are, your brake pads are badly worn and the steel plates they mount on to are rubbing against the rotors.
