I’ve lived at ABSW for 4 years and I have to say this is truly a great place to stay. The apartment rooms are cleaned with every new tenant so when I first moved in, the room had new carpet and was in pristine condition. There’s enough space and natural light which was important to me when I first moved in. The security is solid and the monthly rate is feasible. Walkable distance to Elmwood shops. I recommend ABSW if you’re looking for a clean space in a central location in Berkeley.

When I moved in, carpet was very old and stained, sink clogged with hair, lights did not work, heater malfunction. Staff blamed me for the lights, and as for the heater, had to call city inspector, as was taking months to fix. One time they put tarp for construction over the building w/o notice for months. It was dark for all tenants 24-hr, as no light goes through the construction net. I have emailed ABSW apartments to ask about their 1br and studios and it took them weeks to email me back. I believe I even had to send a follow-up email before they finally responded. When I emailed then back, they never emailed me again to answer my question. I tried to contact them through the form on their website and they have not responded to that either. If this is how they treat potential renters, I cannot imagine how it is being a tenant there...imagine putting in a maintenance request. Yikes!
