YWCA DOES IMPECCABLE WORK WITH FAMILIES HELPING WITH RESOURCES AND GOING BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY
I felt compelled to write this after seeing some of the negative reviews, because my experience was the complete opposite. I am currently in this shelter this weekend will be my last. These so called women who work here are very cold and heartless human beings and treat you like you are nothing. I had to flee to Ohio from Michigan with my 3 children from there father who abused me for yrs and tried to kill me. I came to this shelter and was told I can be here for 60 days while I get on my feet. I am writing this review to honestly share my experience so others can make informed decisions and so this organization has the opportunity to reflect and improve. While the YWCA shelter does provide a place to sleep, the overall environment was not safe, supportive, or trauma-informed. Many staff members treated residents as if they were less than, often responding to vulnerable situations with shame, guilt, and blame for circumstances that were outside of our control.
