The word “omakase” should not be thrown around so easily. To me, it represents one of the finest ways to experience sushi. It isn’t just a chef choosing a dozen small dishes and serving them from start to finish. There is more to it, the craftsmanship, the care, and the uniqueness of what’s offered. We were visiting Phoenix and decided to try Yuzu Omakase based on the positive reviews, but unfortunately, our experience was a major disappointment. The quality of the food did not meet our expectations, and out of all the dishes served throughout the evening, I only truly enjoyed two pieces of nigiri. Food quality and taste are pretty mid. The ex-Nobu chef marketing is quite misleading—there was no ex-Nobu chef on-site when we went, and the kitchen crew seemed fairly entry-level. To be fair, the young cook (who looked like in his early 20s) that served us was super friendly and we appreciated his service! But that still doesn't change the fact that the marketing feels pretty misleading, There are definitely better and less expensive options in the Valley.
