I should start by saying that it feels strange to be writing a review for a Zen center as if it were a business. Yokoji Zen Mountain Center (YZMC) is not about making money, but students do pay a daily, weekly, or monthly fee for housing, meals, and instruction. Scholarships are also available. It’s beautiful , peaceful and the members that have taken on the task of maintaining the temple do a fabulous job .An amazing place to recharge your spirit and empty your mind . I highly recommend a visit and at least a 3day sesschin.
Visiting here is coming home, and being at home. And great vegan food and solid, experienced teachers.
This place is amazing. The staff, the facilities, the location. Yokoji is the real deal.
It has been my “temple” for almost 10 years. I’ve been around the world and back, and Yokoji is a place of true beauty and honest silence, where silence can be a rare thing to find these days in, say, India or Nepal. How fortunate to have a place like this in America. When you’re ready for serious practice without distractions, go.
