Loved the tour at Wind River Wild Horse sanctuary! You are able to get up close to the wild herg - they are very friendly and curious about visitors! The guide was an expert on horses sharing lots of information regarding herd management, horse care, and herd dynamics, like friend groups. The tour was about 45min. The sanctuary is easy to get to and conveniently located near Lander.
Finally, getting around to doing a review, my sincere apologies to Elisa! I visited the Sanctuary at the end of August and had a fantastic time. My guide was Elisa was top notch and very well informed. I appreciated learning about the purpose and goals of this wonderful sanctuary. Kudos to the Oldham family for taking on this great endeavor. The horses were friendly, healthy and happy! I would highly recommend a visit! Lauren
We went on a cold rainy day. Given, you won’t be seeing horses on the range, but close up, on a well tended ranch. The experience was fantastic, our guide extremely knowledgeable and caring about the horses and gave us many insights about wildlife management. Definitely worth while a visit.
For us, the two of us, it was not really the best. For us, we just figured the money went for a good cause and leave it at that. It was nice to hear the stories of the horses and the government involvement with the BLM but it wasn't what I was hoping for. The horses are penned up. Maybe a dozen or more to a pen. We were driven around in a side by side to view the horses.
