Great work. My Dad taught me the most important rule with choosing a mechanic is grit under the fingernails and looking you in the eye. Jim gets his hands dirty. Always been honest and solid work.
This place is Gods gift to Subaru owners! I should know--weve been taking our Subarus (a quirky 85 and my new-in-2001) there since 1996. Jim knows the quirks of old Subarus and is up-to-date on what gives with the new ones. VERY friendly, helpful place for women like me, who listen to their car and want new noises diagnosed ASAP. If a new problem arises, I call the shop, am invited to drive by, and Jim takes a look. Within minutes I know whether the problem is serious and needs immediate attention or whether I can wait for a... read more
I have never written an online review of a local service before, but I feel I owe it to Jim to add to his already glowing praise. I have only recently moved to the area and when my maintenance required light came on, I decided to give Willimantic Autoworks a call based on the other reviews here. Jim was very personable and professional both on the phone and in person, and diagnosed my problem quickly and for free. While the location seems questionable (especially for someone new in town), I will certainly continue to give my... read more
Jim is one of the best things about living in Willimantic. He always has time for you even if you just stop in to ask about buying a new car. He explains everything so it is understandable and tries to save you money if he can. It is just like having your dad around to give advice and help. He does all the work on both of our cars and we trust him totally.
For 20 years now, Jim has been our go-to mechanic, always providing top shelf service for even the most gnarly problems. While he not only gets the solution for the existing issue at reasonable cost, he goes the extra mile to suggest problems that may arise in the near future. This is peace of mind all around for me. Jim has never had a bad day! He is always personable and has even come to our local residence on his own time to help with a problem to avoid a potential tow cost. I have recommended him to many friends who have... read more
Jim always explains car technology clearly. He gives great advice on car oils and parts. He is connected via the web to discussion groups of other mechanics. The Autoworks has always found a way fix problems on my cars at the lowest possible cost....and this has been true for 24 years.
It was January 2nd and we were visiting family from out of town when our 2003 Toyota Camry lost its heat, and started overheating. We were in a prime situation to be taken advantage of and fretted bringing this to an unfamiliar garage. But we knew we found the right place when we heard NPR playing in the garage! They diagnosed it as a stripped head bolt and blown head gasket. Jims explanation of the diagnosis was incredibly detailed and he took time to answer all of my questions. Though they were not familiar with the ins an... read more
