Dr. Smiddy became my opthamologist in Naples last year after I had some questionable experiences with another local doctor. Earlier this month I experienced a partial retina detachment and Dr. Smiddy saw me immediately and changed his schedule to do surgery the next day. Throughout all my interaction with Dr. Smiddy he has been considerate and thoughtful and I can't say enough good things about him.

If i could give him negative stars, I would. Saw him for the first time at 15 for bilateral optic pits and again at 20, neither time he provided a solution nor was he even willing to discuss trying anything. He is hostile and shut down any questions i had about other options, and told me to come back if i start losing vision in my good eye, told that to a 20 year old with her entire life ahead of her! Today I took my mother to her retina appointment with Dr. Smiddy, and he was really unprofessional. My mother was referred to Dr. Smiddy for a detached retina, and he recommended an injection rather than surgery. My mother told Dr. Smiddy that she was perplexed and anxious about how the injections would assist her detached retina, and he became angry and forced her out of his office. We were afraid to see this doctor due to the reviews but he was amazing. He listened, was kind, and gave us hope. He was able to do a surgery that other specialists were not confident they could do. We were very impressed with his skill, expertise and professionalism. Thank you Dr Smiddy
