I was a dental assistant for 15 years. I’m a low risk patient for cavities. I have not had any cavities in over 29 years. And I was low risk before then. I no longer have insurance, so my payments are cash. Bitewing X-rays should be taken every 2-3 years. Exams by the dentist should be done at least once a year. High risk patients should have bitwings done yearly and exams twice a year. Considerations need to be made by the needs of the patients, not by a standard protocol.
