Pretty chill place. I'd recommend this place for a group or some friends as a getaway. The people who own it are really cool as well. :)
I was twelve years old,my first camp experience ! This was our first year running programs for EARTH Lacrosse at WLC and the spot was just what we thought it would be; Rustic, nestled up against tons of land, a beautiful river running through to cool us down after a hard place, and good people to work with. Thanks Western Life!
Menaul Middle School has started the academic year at Western Life Camp for three years. The camp is a part of our curriculum and allows us to build community in ways that are immeasurable. Students get to disconnect from technology and connect with our core values that include intellectual curiosity. I have nothing but wonderful memories of this camp and its people. I never will forget the owners Mel Root and his family. Mel could run fast that's for sure. I had no idea this was still open. I guess I was there in the early 70's. Owning a summer camp in the Pecos wilderness would be about the best job in the world! I would love to go back to El Porvenir, Beaver Creek, Johnson's Mesa, El Celio and my favorite Elk Mountain and stay a week in the wilderness.
