This was my first appointment and a great experience. Skilled doctor, skilled hygienist, friendly, helpful and efficient office staff. I recommend Dr. Mathai and staff. You'll be in good hands! Update on 2/11/2026: Excellent dental care, highly skilled and caring doctor, efficient and friendly team.
I'm glad Dr. Wang detected an infection and recommended that I see a periodontist. Unfortunately the one they referred me to was out of my network so I had to look for one on my own, but I'm very happy with Dr. Ho from Faces of the Mission. She deftly performed gum surgery. I wished West Portal had asked me where to send a prescription for Peridex. Instead of paying $19 to them, I could have paid only $5 co-pay at the Kaiser Pharmacy. I didn't appreciate that. I hope in the future they ask me where to send prescriptions.
My first visit was overall okay, though I left feeling a bit disappointed given the very strong reviews. My appointment was scheduled for 1:00 PM, but I wasn’t seen until about 30 minutes later. The X-rays and cleaning took close to two hours, which felt quite long. There were several interruptions along the way, including missing or malfunctioning equipment, repeat X-ray images because the first ones weren’t taken correctly, stretches where no one was in the room, and the dentist needing to return after forgetting a step.
