History Established in 1975. The Scots-Irish who farmed this rich land built their church at a natural meeting place, the convergence of three roads with the old Catskill Turnpike. The elegant classic structure, built in 1850, served them for 121 years. We just went to an exceptional concert by the Rahim AlHaj trio and it was a memorable experience. The center is an intimate venue (an old church) with excellent sound and a warm ambiance. We will be back!
The Centre has been one of the most special places in my life time. I grew up there with my best friend, and it has been the platform for many of the special times in my life and will always cherish what is has to offer! Being a part of Shakspear in the Valley has shaped my life in more ways than I can say! I have made so many friends through the program, and without the centre it would not have been possible. I am forever attached, and will forever remain a loyal person!
West Kortright Centre has been a treasured part of my life, and my children's lives, for, I believe, over 20 years now, and like to believe it will remain as such, for another 20, or more, to come..!!
The West Kortright Centre is the most wonderful place in the Catskills for anybody, everybody, young or old. The location is magic; a 19th C. church in the middle of fields and hills. The director, for more than 30 years, has brought many famous and wonderful musicians to the church. It is a place where you meet life-long friends, you volunteer, you enjoy the many events they offer during the season. We need to continue this tradition of Catskill fun for many more generations.
