the staff and Dr Childs is very friendly and professional, unfortunately, I felt extremely pressured by Dr. Childs to get lots of medictions for my 15 month pup. especially tick and worm medication, I understand protocols need to be followed my bill for perhaps 15 minute of service was over $600.00. My appointment was at 12 noon but unfortunetely I was not seen until close to 1230pm. I beleive it was because my dog was wet from the rain:(. I am not sure I can go back:(.
I can't recommend West End Vet highly enough. I've been bringing my cat (Robin) here for years, but this year was the biggest challenge yet. I relocated from Vancouver to Wellington, New Zealand, and getting Robin ready to travel was a long process with a lot of steps: rabies vaccination, a titre test, all kinds of export paperwork, and a fit-to-fly exam, all on a strict timeline. Dr Childs and her team have been amazing in their support with our cat Matu. We’ve discovered early this year that she had FIP and thanks to Dr Childs we were able to diagnose it early and start treatment right away. They’ve been extremely helpful and patient with us, especially since our cat is a bit immunocompromised, and we always leave knowing our kitty is in good hands. Now we have a super energetic and playful kitty, who we thought for a moment wouldn’t be with us today. Thank you so much!!
Our experience with West End Veterinary Clinic, is one I'm trying to forget. Helene Childs withheld knowledge of a grave underlying condition in order to get approval to perform unjustified surgeries on our beloved dog; causing unnecessary trauma and grief. It took legal action to reach an acceptable level of accountability. According to College of Veterinarians of BC (Consent Resolutions), failures in informed consent and record keeping persist.
We've been patients of Dr. Child's for 10 years, and I don't think it's a coincidence that our Frenchie is nearing 15. Her expertise and care have played a huge role in the amount of quality time we've had with him. Some of the one-star reviews seem to conflate surprise at veterinary bills with poor service.
