I recently visited an inpatient at West Cornwall and was so pleasantly surprised by the entire place. It has the huge benefit that it is a smaller hospital providing less services and so it’s not as chaotic as a big DGH but from the lady serving coffee at the Starbucks counter, to the porters, cleaners, reception staff everyone genuinely seems to love working there and are so friendly and invested in giving patients and visitors the best experience possible. Took my fiancee in on Friday to get her knee looked at after a bad football injury at 9pm the evening before. Lady who “looked after her” was useless, patronising and sent her away with a sheet to do exercises. No pain relief. Nothing. My fiancee was in so much pain on the Monday that she couldn’t barely walk and went all the way in to PZ to have it looked at again. I’ve just heard 2 elderly couples say they have been waiting 9 Nine hours to be seen in urgent care at this hospital what an utter disgrace. Management here need to resign and bring in people who can do the job. It’s totally unacceptable to keep sick people waiting this long.
Phoned 111 and advised to go to MIU. Went with 2 spider bites that had pink rings around them. Had an irregular heart rate and tight throat. Seen quickly by triage and reassured ill be seen when a cubicle becomes free. Sat back in waiting room for 2 hours. Not been able to eat anything and developed a migraine. Could not sit and wait any longer as I felt worse. Asked receptionist if it would be more helpful if I went to Camborne/Redruth MIU and she was unsure. I was terrified of the procedure I was booked in for due to the awful treatment I had endured at RCHT. However, I was treated with professional respect and correctly sedated. 5 star.
